Easily the best practical advice ever given by a relationship psychotherapist. So true so simple. Never wrongly assume what we all do, i.e. that you own something or someone and that it's just here to please us forever like a peace of furniture. A partner is never owned and can disappear from our life anytime - be it through disease, death or separation. Therefore treat your partner as you would treat your clients/customers, i.e. with respect and your best self. Esther comes forward with this and so many other simple and crucial but largely forgotten truths. Highly highly highly recommendable and truly enjoyable read.
Esther captures the paradoxical tidal pulls between mystery and safety– between what is familiar and what is exciting. A great read for all couples or single people who are interested in deepening their knowledge on the subject of why desire can sometimes be challenging to maintain in committed relationships, and why we are always subject to the lure of what is new and exciting.
Esther Perel's book does a good job of turning some fundamental ideas about relationships and relationship success on their head. I became aware of her via a TED talk that she gave recently about infidelity. Great talk, and that led me to buy this book. Her advice advocates that two people in a relationship must be allowed to maintain their autonomy and a bit of mystery BOTH if they want to be individually satisfied and if they want to continue to find each other attractive. She also gives many examples of patients from all different walks of life and all different ages so I can imagine that this book would be interesting to a very large audience. Really a must read for anyone who has been married / in a long-term relationship for more than 2 years and finds themselves moving away from the " head over heels in love" stage and into the "mature love" stage. She really clues you in to how relationships can happily exist long-term, and her answers are not necessarily those that I expected.
Ester Perrell is refreshing in her approach. This is a highly readable book with good suggestions. It will change the way you think - promised!
If you are in a longterm relationship and you are dissatisfied with your sex life read this book! So many Aha moments which led to results in the bedroom. Truly life changing!
I am a big fan of Esther Perell and it is not her first book I read. Highly recommendable - for everyone. Eye opening, shifted my perspective and I keep recommending her.
Dieses Buch hat mich eher weniger überzeugt. Das Thema ist sehr spannend, aber die Fallbeispiele werden für meinen Geschmack sehr oberflächlich behandelt und wirken Clichéhaft.
